On Monday, May 17, The Frick Collection opened its doors to approximately 320 supporters and members for its annual black-tie Spring Party, a gathering that is a benefit of membership and one of the most elegant ways to experience the Frick and its mansion.
This year, it was unusually balmy, and both outdoor gardens were in full use. Guests also enjoyed full access to the galleries, where many had their last look at the special loan exhibition of paintings from London’s Dulwich Picture Gallery. As Rembrandt’s Girl at a Window looked on, guests shuttled back and forth between the Fifth Avenue Garden and the Music Room where they were treated to an amazing dessert buffet (Union Square Events) that included red velvet cake, mini ice cream cones, lemon whoopee pies, key lime lollipops….and too much else to describe… and wines donated by The Four Graces. In the Music Room, dancing prevailed much of the evening to a swinging mix from Basie-infused Big Band to Lady Gaga—provided by George Gee and his Jump Jivin’ Wailers. Outside, a cool jazz trio under one of the magnolia trees entertained those at tables on the lawn and underneath the classical portico. |
